Portraits with 18/55 mm IS kit lens

Image
It was the first time that I took my camera out during the day time and I could immediately observe the power of 18/55mm IS kit lens. It is very easy to shoot portrait pictures using this lens. They provide lovely bokehs without too much effort. I am motivated to get up earlier in the morning to be able to shoot in daylight. The following is the picture of my friend, Mr. Kuppambatti, taken in the Riverside drive (yes, it is next to Hudson river).

A snowy day in NYC

Image
After a hard day's work, I ran out of my lab to get a few pictures in natural light. But I realized that it was already dark and snowing. So I spent most of my day clicking pictures of Columbia University and NYC Taxis. The two photos in this post are the best of the day. I am happy in a way that I missed the day light because I was forced to learn about AI Servo option in the Rebel Xsi and Panning. The taxi picture on top was taken using that option and it is very easy to get started. Well, before the critics pan me, I will confess that the photo looks very noisy (1600 ISO). The other picture is that of snowfall as viewed from out apartment. I am uploading this for critics to have a good time and also for myself to learn from their comments. TJ

Initial experiments with XSi

Image
This is a part of initial experiments with my new Rebel XSi and the kit lens 18/55mm. I am amazed by the quality of pictures this equipment is giving me (remember that I am a beginner and I have the right to get amazed by the silliest of things). I have toiled to get this kind of depth of field with a Point and Shoot. Moreover this was shot in an extremely lowlight room without flash. I love SLR (so far ;-)). TJ
